Financial Aid Endowment Funds

Albert Brothers Family Scholarship Fund       
Established in 2002 by Burton and Sylvia Albert P ’77, ’79, ’82, GP ’06, ’08, ’09, ’11, ’14 and Jan and Eric Albert ’77, P ’06, ’08, ’14 and Rachel and Jonathan Albert ’79, P ’09, ’11 to support Lower and Middle School students from Waterbury who have financial need, demonstrate academic excellence and solid participation in the School community and help maintain the diversity of the student body. 

Alumni Reunion Scholarship Fund     
Established in 2002 by the Alumni Association Board of Directors to support ninth grade students new to the School who exhibit qualities of strong academic and personal achievement and who have financial need. This Scholarship is awarded to the same student for four years, if the student maintains an acceptable level of academic performance.            

Keder Bayard Scholarship Fund                   
Established in memory of Keder Bayard, teacher of mathematics from 1965-1972 and then from 1977-1987. The Keder Bayard Scholarship supports students with demonstrated financial need who best exemplify academic interests and spirited extracurricular life.

The Benedict Foundation for Independent Schools Scholarship Fund
Established in 2006 to support Upper School students who are primarily from Waterbury, this fund helps to connect academically talented, community-minded students who demonstrate leadership potential with a financial assistance mechanism. 

Lucy H. Boardman 1880 Scholarship Fund
Established in 1875 with a gift from the estate of Lucy H. Boardman, Saint Margaret’s School for Girls Class of 1880, to support students with financial need.                                                

Claire Couch Bosee ’52 Scholarship Fund
Established in 2002 in memory of Theodosia H. Falorsi, Art History Teacher at Saint Margaret’s School for Girls from 1941-1960, to support students with financial need.

Louis F. and Lillian H. Brown Scholars Fund
Established in 2006 to honor their sons, Avery L. and Colin H. Brown, former graduates of McTernan and St. Margaret’s-McTernan Schools. Each parent served as a Trustee and support access to education and scholarship. The scholarship goal is to offer merit awards of financial assistance to students of African American ethnicity, in grades nine through twelve, who are highly motivated, show extraordinary promise and are deemed emerging leaders. Recipients will be named Brown Scholars.

Class of 1971 Scholarship Fund
Established in 2006 to support Upper School students with financial need.

Class of 1963 Scholarship Fund
Established in 2013 to support students with financial need.

Alberta C. Edell Scholarship Fund                  
Established in honor of Alberta C. Edell, Headmistress of Saint Margaret’s School for Girls from 1923 to 1948.

Pauline S. Fairbanks Scholarship Fund          
Established by the Saint Margaret’s-McTernan School Board of Trustees in memory of Miss Pauline S. Fairbanks, Headmistress of Saint Margaret’s School for Girls from 1950 to 1968. 

Edward E. Ford Scholarship Fund                  
Established in 1986 with a gift from the Edward E. Ford Foundation and many donors as part of the Framework for Excellence campaign.

 

Financial Aid General Endowment Fund
Established by gifts from various donors, to be used to provide financial aid to students in need of assistance.

Foxhollow School, Inc. Scholarship Fund
Established in 2005 by the Trustees of Foxhollow School, Inc. for financial aid in support of a student, with preference to a young woman who personifies the high ideals of Foxhollow School and who exhibits an aptitude for literature and poetry. The annual award honors the memory and mission of Foxhollow School, the alma mater of Tish Samponaro, former Trustee of Chase Collegiate School and devoted mother of four Chase alumni. Foxhollow School was founded by Miss Aileen M. Farrell and existed in Lenox, Massachusetts as an all-girls' school from 1940 to 1976. 

Fromer Family Scholarship Fund
Established in 2008 by Jason S. Fromer '88 and Laurie Fromer, and Arlene D. Fromer '63, to provide financial aid for an incoming Upper school student whose untapped potential would thrive in the Chase environment.

Estelle M. Heydenreich Scholarship Fund                    
Established in 1997 in memory and honor of Estelle M. Heydenreich, a teacher at McTernan and St. Margaret's/McTernan from 1961-1985 and mother of four graduates:  Elaine H. Harned, SMS'56; Leesa H. Campbell, SMS '63; Robert, McT '55; and Jonathan, McT '70.  For students who show "thoughtful consideration of and respect for others and a bright and positive spirit."

Frederic R. Kellogg ’19 and Lucy Templeton Kellogg ’24 Scholarship Fund                                        
Established in 1996 with a bequest from the Frederic R. Kellogg Charitable Remainder Trust and gifts in memory of Frederic Kellogg ’19, and Lucy Templeton Kellogg ’24 from their family to support students from Waterbury with financial need.                         

Ruby T. Larkin Scholarship Fund                    
Established in 1991 in honor of Ruby T. Larkin, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and aunt of alumni of the School.                     

Robert F. LeVasseur Scholarship Fund           
Established in 1987 by Mrs. Robert F. LeVasseur in memory of her husband, Robert F. LeVasseur, to support Upper School students with financial need.

Dr. John N. Lewis Scholarship Fund   
Established in 1948 in honor of The Reverend Dr. John Lewis, Rector of St. John’s Church in Waterbury.

Peter Lucas Memorial Scholarship Fund         
Established in 2000 in memory of Peter Lucas by his sister, Diana Lucas ’40, to support fourth grade students.

Long Scholarship Fund                                  
Established in 1948 through the estate of Charlotte Burr Long, Saint Margaret’s School for Girls, Class of 1892.

Susan K. Nardozzi Scholarship Fund
Established in 2012 in memory of Susan Nardozzi by James Nardozzi ’86, family and friends, this fund provides financial aid to a young woman attending Chase Collegiate School in grades six through twelve who excels in academics and athletics. Throughout her life, Susan believed that practice, hard work, and team effort encompassed characteristics necessary to be successful in all aspects of life.

Osborne and White Family Scholarship Fund                         
Established in 2000 by James M. and Betty Lou Osborne P ’72, ’77, GP ’06, ’08, ’12 and Susan Osborne White ’77 and Brian White P ’06, ’08, ’12 to support students with financial need.                                                      

Michaela Rose Petit ’14 Scholarship Fund
Established in 2007 in memory of Michaela Rose Petit ’14 by her loving father, William A. Petit, M.D., and through the gifts of countless families and friends to provide financial assistance to a student entering Middle School who shares Michaela’s warmth toward others, devotion to academic success, and embrace of family. Awarded to the recipient for three years, this scholarship honors the memory of Michaela; her mother, Jennifer Hawke-Petit; and sister, Hayley Petit ’07, who tragically lost their lives on July 23, 2007. In recognition of Michaela’s friendships with the Class of 2014, the first recipient of this award will be a classmate of Michaela’s.

Adolph and Martha Reymond Scholarship Fund
Established in 2000 by Dorothy Reymond ’42, in memory of her parents, Adolph and Martha Reymond, to support for four years a ninth grade student from Waterbury who has a strong academic record and a willingness to achieve.

Jeffrey C. Singleton ’82 and Alumni Scholarship Fund
Established in 2006 by the Class of 1982 in memory of their classmate, Jeffrey C. Singleton, to support deserving students with financial need.

Martha Starkweather Wade Scholarship Fund
Established in 1996 with a gift from the estate of Elizabeth Wade White ’23, in memory of her grandmother, Martha Starkweather Wade.

St. Margaret’s-McTernan Scholarship Fund     
Established in 2005 by the St. Margaret’s-McTernan School Board of Trustees with gifts from many donors to support deserving students with financial need.

Francis Thayer Russell Scholarship Fund       
Established by the Alumni Association Board of Directors in memory of The Reverend Dr. Francis Thayer Russell, first Headmaster of Saint Margaret’s School for Girls, who served from 1875 to 1891.

Welton Scholarship Fund                                
Established by a gift from the Welton Trust to support students with financial need.        

Wesson Family Scholarship Fund
Established in 2005 by a gift from Robert Wesson ’57 and Susanne Wesson to support students with financial need.

Woodward Scholarship Fund                          
Established with a gift from the Watertown Committee of the David, Helen and Marian Woodward Fund to support students with financial need.       

Wykeham Rise School Scholarship Fund        
Established with a gift from Wykeham Rise School, when the School closed and the Board of Trustees distributed its assets, to support other students in perpetuity.

 

Endowment Funds for Faculty Support & Professional Development

Faculty Development Fund                              
Established in 1991 in honor of the teachers at Saint Margaret’s-McTernan School with gifts from alumni, parents of graduating seniors and others.

Faculty Salary Fund
Established in honor of the teachers at St. Margaret’s-McTernan School with gifts from the School community.

Edward E. Ford Professional Development Fund
Established in 1990 with a gift from the Edward E. Ford Foundation and many donors to support professional development for faculty in grades 9-12, particularly sabbaticals and summer study grants.

Margaret W. Field Award for Excellence in Teaching Fund
Established in 2003 by the Trustees of St. Margaret’s-McTernan in honor of Margaret W. Field, Head of School from 1994 to 2003. This award acknowledges Ms. Field’s dedication and commitment to teaching and is presented annually to a teacher whose passion, creativity and effective teaching engages students in the classroom and encourages and inspires students to become life-long learners.

Katherine K. Harding ’24 Faculty Development Fund
Established in 1993 in memory of Katherine K. Harding ’24 for faculty development.

Parents' Association Faculty Fund
Established in 2013 by the Parents' Association with gifts received from many family and friends of the School. These gifts are in gratitude for the sustained excellence on the part of Chase's faculty and will serve to enhance salaries so that Chase can attract and retain talented,motivated and passionate teachers.

The Slattery Professional Development Fund  
Established in 2002 in memory of Hugh Slattery, Headmaster of Saint Margaret’s-McTernan School from 1977 to 1990, by his family and friends to support professional development for teachers.

 

Prize and Award Endowment Funds

Edna Rush Crane ’33 Alumnae/i Award Fund              
Established in 1979 by the Alumni Association to honor Edna Rush Crane ’33 for her many years of service to the School. Awarded annually to a member of the graduating class for service to the School through exemplary participation in all aspects of School life.

Damon Palladino ’88 Creative Writing Award Fund
Established in 1994 in memory of Damon Palladino ’88 by his family and friends and awarded annually to an Upper School student for excellence in creative writing.

Shawn Anton Walsh ’67 Prize Fund                
Established in memory of Shawn Anton Walsh ’68, by his family, and awarded annually to a student in the Upper School whose concerned leadership has had a distinct affect upon the lives of fellow students and whose unusual dedication has made a significant contribution to the life of the School.

 

Student Life and Enrichment Endowment Funds

Benedict Foundation Robotics Fund
Established in 2009 with a grant from The Benedict Foundation to support the Robotics program. The program is to promote in students the excitement and rewards of science, technology, and engineering and to prepare them for pursuit of science and technology careers.

Centennial Lectureship Fund  
Established in 1965, by many donors in honor of the School’s 100th anniversary and to support lectures to enrich the curriculum.

Lucy Templeton Kellogg ’24 Visiting Artists Program Fund
Established in 1998 in memory of Lucy Templeton Kellogg ’24, by her family and friends, to bring visiting musicians and artists to the School to enhance the curriculum and enrich the lives of the students and teachers.

Julie Griggs Pfeffer ’58 Memorial Fund           
Established in 1985 in memory of Julie Griggs Pfeffer ’58 by her parents, Ann and Robert Griggs ’23, and family and friends to fund Lower School field trips for student enrichment.

Phyllis Tremaglio ’64 Lectureship Fund
Established in 1998 in honor of Phyllis J. Tremaglio ’64 by her parents, A. Michael and Edith Tremaglio.

Visual and Performing Arts Fund        
Established by many donors to support the visual and performing arts.

 

Facility Endowment Funds

Damon Palladino ’88 Garden Fund
Established in 1994 in memory of Damon Palladino ’88, by his parents for maintenance of the garden at the driveway entrance to Goss Field House.

Centennial Library Fund                 
Established in 1965 by many donors in honor of the School’s 100th anniversary, to support the Centennial Library.           

 

General Purpose Endowment Funds

Anne Briglia ’76 Fund
Established in 2006 by Anne Briglia ’76, alumna and Trustee of the School to be used for unrestricted support of the school.

Miriam Noble Camp ’17 Fund  
Established in 2004 with a bequest from Miriam Noble Camp ‘17, devoted alumna, Life Trustee, mother of Saint Margaret’s alumnae, Mimi Camp Niederman ’44  and Nancy Camp ’49, and whose son Orton P. Camp, Jr. was a former Trustee of the School.

Alexander F. Campbell Fund   
Established in honor of Alexander F. Campbell, parent of an alumnus of the School.

Carleton Family Fund
Established in 2009 by Stephen and Maureen Carleton to provide unrestricted support to the School and its mission.

Centennial Fund              
Established in 1965 by many donors in honor of Saint Margaret’s School for Girls 100th anniversary.

General Fund                               
Established by gifts from various donors to be used for the general purposes of the School.

Rita Shore Greenblatt ’42 Fund
Established in 2006 with a gift from the Estate of Milton Greenblatt in memory of his wife Rita Shore Greenblatt ’42 an alumna and former Trustee of Saint Margaret’s School for Girls, Class of 1942.

Driggs Fund                            
Established in 1970 in honor of Helen Ives Driggs and Theodore Driggs, Saint Margaret’s School for Girls’.

Garthwait Family Fund                        
Established in 2004 by Marion and Robert Garthwait, Sr. P’78, GP ’10 and Carlotta and Robert Garthwait, Jr. ’78, P’10 and Cly-Del Manufacturing Company.

Mabel I. Gillespie '05 Fund      
Established with a bequest from Mabel I. Gillespie, Saint Margaret’s School for Girls, Class of 1905.

Goss Family Fund                               
Established in memory of Estelle and George A. Goss, parents and grandparents of alumni from McTernan School and Saint Margaret’s-McTernan School.    

Hallden Memorial Fund                       
Established in 1986 with gifts from the estates of Karl W. Hallden and Margaret M. Hallden.

Leila Fellner Lenagh '42 Fund
Established in 2012 with a gift from the Estate of Leila Fellner Lenagh, Saint Margaret’s Class of 1942, to be used for unrestricted support to the School. This charitable bequest honors Mrs. Lenagh’s love for poetry, theater and music.

Carol Rippere Ludwig '41 and Laudell F. Ludwig Fund
Established in 2007 by Carol Rippere Ludwig ’41, alumna of the School to be used for unrestricted support of the school.

Lucy T. Mink Fund                              
Established in honor of Lucy T. Mink, parent of an alumna of the School.

Nelson P. Hart ’45 Fund
Established in 2011 with a charitable bequest from Nelson. P. Hart, McTernan School, Class of 1945.

Leon F. Powers, III ’79 Fund   
Established by his family and friends in memory of Leon F. Powers, III, Saint Margaret’s-McTernan Class 1979.
