Cornerstone Campaign Two Closes, Topping $15 million

It is with great pleasure that we announce the successful completion of Cornerstone Campaign Two - a $15 million capital campaign! Thanks to the generosity of nearly 3,000 trustees, alumni, parents, friends of the School, foundations and corporations, the Campaign represents the single largest fundraising initiative in the history of the 147-year-old institution.

Launched in 2006, highlights of the Campaign include:

  • The School’s endowment has doubled in size since 2005, so that it stands at over $11 million today.
  • Our renovated and expanded Upper School can now accommodate 220 students, enabling 60% growth in Upper School enrollment and boasts of environmentally responsible features such as passive solar design, high efficiency products and mechanicals and 288 solar panels.
  • The Athletics program was strengthened by renovating and reconfiguring our playing fields, constructing dugouts for softball and baseball fields & adding three new rowing shells for the crew program.
  • Enhancements and renovations have been made to every major campus facility including student classrooms and computer labs, Garthwait Dining Room, our campus entrance and pathways and Fulkerson Arts Center. In addition, a new outdoor classroom pavilion was constructed by the School pond.
  • This summer, functional renovations will be made to the McTernan Centennial Library, enabling the upper level to better serve Chase's youngest students.
  • A new Campus Maintenance Center will be constructed this fall, freeing up our front lawn for a future Early Childhood Center.
  • The Copper Beech Society, Chase’s planned giving program, has tripled in size since the Campaign was launched.

Under the strong leadership of Campaign Co-Chairs, Maggie Smith ’69, Hi Upson ’46 and Ellen Walsh, Parent ’01 & ’04, the Campaign experienced many significant milestones. Launched with a lead gift of $1 million, the top gifts also included another $1 million gift, an anonymous $2 million gift and five $500,000 gifts.

“Cornerstone Campaign Two has been an exciting and transformative period for Chase Collegiate School,” said Ms. Smith, proprietor of Winvian in Morris, CT. “By surpassing the $15 million mark, we have attained the Campaign goals of enhancing our facility and growing our endowment, thereby solidifying Chase’s position as a distinguished institution in the greater Waterbury community.”

We are so grateful to our community of alumni, parents, students and friends who generously supported the Campaign. That the Campaign succeeded despite the recession strongly reflects the tremendous support and belief many people have for Chase Collegiate School and its students.

Each and every gift has made a difference and, for that, we thank you.
