Waterbury native, Ray Behr, has coached the cross country program since 1987, after being appointed to the faculty in 1982. With an overall coaching record of 254 and 46 in boys cross country and 164 and 47 in girls' cross country, Behr has led the cross country program to have one of the strongest reputations in New England.
For the past two years, the boys have captured the Housatonic League Championship and the girls' have captured the Housatonic League Championship the past nine years. In the 2012 season, the girls' placed fourth in the New England Tournament and the boys' placed sixth. In the City Championship, the girls' placed second and the boys' placed sixth.
In addition to coaching cross country, Behr is the head varsity baseball coach and serves as a PE teacher at Chase. Coach Behr is one of the most respected teachers at Chase as he sent all three of his children through the school (Jen, Kim, and Steve) and has a passion for Highlander athletics.
