On Thursday, May 31st, the Upper School community gathered at Linky's Place to celebrate teams and athletes at the Annual Spring Sports Award Night. All teams were represented and each Coach recapped their season for the audience with stories of ups and downs, individual triumphs and "inside" stories.
In speaking about the varsity lacrosse season, Coach Bailey Tuthill shared ideas about team spirit and team play, "The perfect team then would be the group or unit that effectively exploits the strengths of the individual while masking his or her weaknesses with the strengths of the complementary individuals." At a School that is about to celebrate its 144th Commencement, Chase's traditions are often decades old; however, a few years ago, Coach Henry Helvie started a new tradition of delivering his girls' varsity tennis recap in verse or poem. This year he surprised everyone with a haiku that had the audience following his creatively executed 5-7-5 story-line about the season, matches, and players.
