Chase-ing Community: A Chat with Senator Chris Murphy

Tremaglio Lecture Series Guest: Senator Chris Murphy

Senator Chris Murphy and his Digital Director, Lia (Albini) Ginis '06, will visit Chase on Wednesday, February 22 from 1:00-2:45 pm.

Toward the end of the summer, Senator Murphy took a walk across Connecticut. Over a period of six days, and for the simple reason of getting to know the people in his community that he would otherwise not necessarily come into contact with, Sen. Murphy spanned about 125 miles by himself; with no ties to any specific agenda.

Senator Murphy is eager to share his approach to community engagement and the innovative ways that he reaches out to hear from a wide variety of people - including his walk across the state.

  • 1:00-2:00 - Lia will speak with Upper School students about her time at Chase and how it helped lead her to her current position.
  • 2:00-2:45 - Senator Murphy will speak with Middle and Upper School students for about 20 minutes, leaving 20 minutes for a student Q&A.

We are excited to provide Chase students and parents with the opportunity to hear how Sen. Murphy decided that it was hard to do his job properly while just sitting behind a desk. His initiative models and supports Chase’s educational belief that it is hard for innovative and community-based learning to happen when just sitting behind a desk all day.

Parents are welcome to attend the event, which will run from 1:00 -2:45 PM in Fulkerson Arts Center.

If you are interested, you can read a Hartford Courant article about Sen. Murphy's summer adventure here.
