Chase Collegiate Hosts Cross Country Middle School Invitational

November 1, 2019

Under beautiful skies and warm temperatures, two hundred and nineteen athletes from nine middle schools from Waterbury and the surrounding area competed at the 11th Annual Chase Collegiate Middle School Invitational on the Chase Collegiate campus.

"We enjoyed it so much. We were so glad that you were able to host the Chase Invitational this year! The season for us wouldn’t have been the same without the race!" Coach Lori Pecukonis (Catholic Acad.)

In the girls' race, Charlotte Murphy, 7th grader from Rochambeau MS (Southbury), led from start to finish outdistancing the field by over one minute on the 2.19 mile course.  In the process, she set a new course record in 14:07, eclipsing the previous record by 19 seconds (Layne Carter, Chase Collegiate, 2013).  Her teammate, Ary Finkel-Hoser, finished 2nd in a close battle with Lana Kolpaand from Swift School.  Charlotte led a dominant showing by the Rochambeau team who captured the team title with 17 points placing 7 in the top 10 of the race.  Rumsey Hall captured 2nd place with 63 points ahead of St Mary Magdalene in 3rd with 75 points.

In the boys' race, Ryan Oemcke, 8th grader from Rochambeau, also outdistanced the field by over one minute in 12:41. His teammate, Hugh McDonald, took second place over Jake Newman from Rumsey Hall and Chase Calabrese from Swift School.  Ryan led his team with 31 points in a hard fought victory over Rumsey Hall who finished with 43 points.  St John's School placed third with 105 points.
