Chase Upper School students had the opportunity on Thursday May 24,2018 to visit the Springfield Museums, in Springfield Mass. It is a collection of five outstanding museums. There are two art museums, a science museum, a history museum, and a Dr. Seuss museum and sculpture garden.
Students started the day with a guided tour, " Art through the Ages" learning about famous artists and their works. They had an introduction to major pieces from each collection. The tour began with the Medieval period and ended with contemporary art.
It was an excellent introduction to the history of art.
After the tour ended students had lunch waiting for them at the Cafe. There they enjoyed time talking about the morning highlights, and making plans for the afternoon.
Students were given an overview of the five museums, ranging from art, history, science, and the newly opened Dr. Seuss Museum, and sculpture garden. They could select museums of interest to them, and spent the afternoon exploring together. There was definitely something there for everyone to view, appreciate, and enjoy.
There was lots to talk about on the bus ride on our way back to campus, and many have plans to return. We all agreed the day was a success !!
