Lower School Music
Music permeates our curriculum in the Lower School, where our students delight in the many opportunities to sing, play, and move to music. Our students learn a variety of musical styles and create their own compositions, accompanying themselves on Orff instruments, including xylophones, glockenspiels, hand drums, rhythm sticks, and tambourines.
The exuberant songs of our students are an essential element at weekly Lower School Morning Meetings, and at performances throughout the year, including Grandparents and Special Friends’ Day, the All-School Holiday Concert, and class curricular musicals.
Our students develop musical literacy through a variety of rhythm and note-reading activities, often using the SMART Board to make it a more interactive and collaborative experience. Through this extensive music program, we cultivate a lifelong love of music in our students.
Lower School Choir
Our students in grades 3, 4, and 5 are invited to participate in the Lower School Choir, which meets on Wednesdays after school. As our students are introduced to the foundations of healthy vocal technique and choral singing, they grow in both ability and confidence. Our talented students put their wonderful variety of repertoire on display at various school performances.
Lower School Band
Our students in Lower School Band have the opportunity to learn flute, clarinet, saxophone, trumpet, French horn, trombone and percussion. Our Lower School Band meets twice a rotation, once for small group lessons and once as a full ensemble. The amazing musical gifts of our students are highlighted and celebrated in the All-School Holiday Concert and the Spring Concert.
